Effective December 1, Skilled Trades Certification (STC) was implemented for four Mechanical Trades:

• Refrigeration & Air Conditioning Mechanic
• Steam fitter/Pipefitter
• Gasfitter A/Gasfitter B
• Sheet Metal Worker

With regulations now in effect, the STC Advisory Team wants to share an implementation update with MCABC members, answer your questions, and share information about the resources available to support member companies and your workers in meeting the requirements.

Leading the conversation about STC supports and implementation for Skilled Trades BC is Craig Woods, Manager of External Relations and Shaun Cox, Manager of Skilled Trades Certification.

Craig Woods, External Relations Manager, has been at SkilledTradesBC for 6 years. He has 20 years of experience supporting education, training, and employment in the skilled trades in addition to his experience working in industry. As the External Relations Manager, Craig is focused on helping enhance relationships with SkilledTradesBC’s diverse stakeholders and partners, seeking insight and input on the needs of B.C.’s growing skilled trades labour force.

Shaun Cox is Manager of Skilled Trades Certification at SkilledTradesBC and he has a diverse background woven around the skilled trades which includes teaching, plumbing, and apprenticeship support in the Oil & Gas sector. Shaun started with SkilledTradesBC in 2017 as a member of the Industry Relations team - utilizing his skills and experience in the skilled trades ecosystem to increase engagement and activity with industry. With the implementation of Skilled Trades Certification, he became Manager of this newly formed department in June 2022 and is looking forward to working with his immediate and the wider SkilledTradesBC team in this new chapter of skilled trades development in B.C.
