Hello,
February is in full swing and MCABC is pleased to
announce we're offering four new courses for the mechanical contracting industry! Our new
educational offerings will help keep your skills sharp and we're covering
content related to safety, leadership, conflict resolution, and customer
service. This week, we hosted an informative workshop for the industry on building
commissioning and we attended the BUILDEX Conference to
learn about Western Canada's built environment and network with industry
professionals. To wrap it up, February 15th is the deadline to provide feedback
for Technical Safety BC's (TSBC) plans to update power engineers, boiler,
pressure vessel and refrigeration safety regulations with the latest edition of
the codes.

MCABC hosts Workshop on Commissioning
|
|
On February 13th, MCABC hosted an informative workshop on building commissioning (new construction) and re-commissioning (existing buildings) processes for both small and large buildings! The workshop was well attended, and the speakers provided excellent insights for mechanical contractors to amplify their impact.

2024 Boiler, pressure vessel and refrigeration code adoption consultation
|
Technical Safety BC plans to update the Power Engineers, Boiler, Pressure Vessel & Refrigeration Safety Regulation (PEBPVRSR) with the latest editions of the boiler, pressure vessel, and refrigeration codes.
TSBC would like feedback from industry on their readiness to use the latest editions of the following codes, without any BC-specific amendments:
- CSA B51:24 Boiler, pressure vessel, and pressure piping code
- CSA B52:23 Mechanical refrigeration code
- ASME Boiler and pressure vessel code (2023)
- ASME B31.1 - 2022, B31.3 - 2022, B31.5 - 2022, and B31.9 - 2020
- ANSI/NB-23 National Board inspection code (2023)
- API 510 (2022) and 570 (2016) inspection codes
- NFPA 85, Boiler and combustion systems hazards code (2023)
- ASME-CSD-1-2021 Controls and safety devices for automatically fired boilers
- ASME/ANSI PVHO-1 (2019) Safety standard for pressure vessels for human occupancy
- ANSI/CGA G-2.1-2023 Requirements for the storage and handling of anhydrous ammonia

Submit your feedback TODAY on proposed amendments to the Energy Efficiency Standards Regulation (EESR)
|
The British Columbia Ministry of Energy, Mines, and Low Carbon Innovation is seeking feedback on the proposed amendments to the Energy Efficiency Standards Regulation (EESR) to implement the highest efficiency equipment standards for space and water heating, effective 2030 or earlier.
The proposal covers the following heating equipment categories:
- Residential forced air systems (i.e. gas furnaces);
- Residential hydronic heating systems (i.e. gas boilers);
- Domestic water heaters (i.e. storage and instantaneous water heaters); and
- Weatherized gas-fired packaged units (i.e. rooftop and makeup air units).
