The National Day for Truth & Reconciliation, also known as Orange Shirt Day, is on September 30th. On this very important holiday, we take the time to recognize the legacy of the Canadian Indian residential school system. MCABC has compiled a list of educational resources and events happening across BC and Canada that speak to the legacy of residential schools and demonstrate reconciliation in action.

Call to join MCABC Committees – MCABC is looking for members to join the Conference Committee, where your insights will enhance the delivery and experience of the 2025 Business Conference & Trade Show. Also, MCABC is looking for members to join the Advocacy Committee and help lead the change for the mechanical contracting industry.

The NextGen Board is leading the way, on September 18th elected a new Chair and Vice Chair and welcomed four new Directors. Also, on Oct 29th, the Board is hosting a fun-filled social to learn more about AI and the mechanical contracting industry.

National Day for Truth & Reconciliation: A Week of Commemoration

September 30th honours the children who never returned home and Survivors of residential schools, as well as their families and communities. Acknowledging and publicly commemorating the history and lasting effects of residential schools is essential for fostering healing and reconciliation.

MCABC has compiled several educational resources and events that speak to the history of the residential school system, reconciliation, the heritage of Indigenous Peoples in Canada, and the effects of colonialism. Explore these topics through a series of virtual and in-person events happening across Canada and BC this week.

        Congratulations to the 2024-25 NextGen Board of Directors who were confirmed on September 18th. The Board welcomes four new NextGen Board Directors – Le Hien Huynh (Division 15 Mechanical Ltd.), Nathan Pulice (Meridian West Mechanical), Marcello Simoncioni (Davidson Bros. Mechanical Ltd), Shelby Sullivan (Sullivan Mechanical) – and newly elected Chair, Scott Kenward (Trotter & Morton Building Technologies Inc) and Vice Chair, Eddie Vaughan (Vaughan Ventures Ltd.)

        Thank you to now Past Chair Maddie Davidson (Davidson Bros. Mechanical Ltd) and departing director, Shantel Thompson (Ainsworth) – both of whom formalized the initial Next Gen Board Executive. Maddie is now an MCABC Board Director and Scott the NextGen Liaison on the MCABC Board of Directors.

        Meet the 2024/2025 MCABC Board of Directors

        MCABC continues to feature our 2024/2025 Board of Directors. Our MCABC Board of Directors are passionate advocates, innovative thinkers and collaborators.

        Meet MCABC Board Director and MIRA Representative, Mike Vesterback.

        A partner in National Hydronics, Mike Vesterback’s primary roles are project manager and estimator. He started with National in 1990, and by 2003 had become an owner together with his business partners.

        As an MCABC Board Director, Mike is passionate about sharing the lessons he’s learned throughout his career. He says this includes understanding that everyone on a team shares an equal role in the success of a project and being open to learning from others. “I’m always impressed with the skills and knowledge of the people on my teams. I work to create a workplace culture of idea sharing to drive teamwork and innovation. Giving people the agency to contribute brings the best solutions forward, which contributes to our projects’ overall success,” he says.

          Technical Safety BC — Fee Changes as of January 1

          Effective January 1, 2025, Technical Safety BC (TSBC) fees will increase by 4% in accordance with their 2024–2025 fee schedule. This fee schedule was developed last year after a period of consultation with industry partners. These fees will assist with offsetting growing costs and maintaining safety oversight in BC.
