MCABC believes that a strong governance structure is essential to the success of the mechanical contracting industry which continues to be impacted by supply chain and labour shortages. Advocacy and collaborative efforts with MCAC and industry stakeholders at the provincial and federal levels are ensuring a loud collective voice.
We were so pleased to hear on Aug. 24 of the federal government’s funding commitment to help employers with $21 million in funding for BCCA's Construction Industry. This funding will support small and medium-sized enterprises in BC to hire 2,100 first-year apprentices, over the next two years, in eligible Red Seal Trades. As the single largest representative trades group on new construction sites, comprising a total of 10 trades, mechanical contractors in BC will have an opportunity to benefit from the program that will be facilitated and administered by BCCA. Additional details about the program are available below.
As we transition to the fall, I would like to thank MCABC members for your continued support. MCABC staff is here to advance your interests, strengthen your positions and raise awareness of your economic impact. Your Association staff is comprised of professionals who are committed to the six pillars: Leadership, Education, Advocacy, Skilled Trades, Collaboration and Innovation. MCABC’s Health and Safety Task Force met to discuss the formation of an operational committee. The group’s purpose is to help build health and safety leadership within companies, provide education and resources, and connect members in health and safety roles with each other to share best practices.

Attention Mechanical Contractors: Federal Funding to Support
Provincial Drive for Registered Apprentices. |
Over the next two years, Mechanical Contractors in BC with fewer than 500 employees will be amongst others representing 39 of construction’s Red Seal Trades eligible to receive $5,000 for hiring new employees or registering existing employees as first-year apprentices. An additional $5,000 will be granted if the worker reports as an underrepresented person. Employers can be eligible to receive payments for up to two first-year apprenticeship positions per year for the two-year period to a maximum of $40,000 per employer. Biggest and Best Golf Classic Yet!

We had the best day at our 2022 Golf Classic, setting a new standard and demonstrating why mechanical contractors in BC should be part of MCABC events going forward. Not only was it our first-ever double shotgun with 288 golfers, but we also achieved 320 dinner guests and 28 sponsors! The team extends their thanks to everyone that took part in this monumental event, including our five superstar volunteers! This would not have been possible without the support of our members and mechanical contractors in BC.
After a blissful day in the sun, the ‘event cops’ hustled everyone into the banquet room for a delicious dinner and prize draws. We’re so excited to build on this success and bring more of what our members love to next year’s event. |

guidelines.
While the regulation goes into effect on

The Builders Lien Act provides a very useful tool in the toolbox of an unpaid subcontractor or trade contractor, but has set processes and timelines that must be followed in order to allow a subcontractor or trade contractor to avail itself of the Act’s rights and remedies. However, the Builders Lien Act is commonly misunderstood including with respect to certificates of completion, the claim of lien filing period and the holdback period. |

The Ammonia Safety Awareness Program was developed due to the rise of ammonia-related incidents and hazards over the past few years, including the tragedy at Fernie Memorial Arena.
Developed in collaboration with industry professionals, this program provides training and downloadable tools to fill in knowledge gaps and share best practices for maintaining ammonia refrigeration equipment and systems across their lifecycle.
Help ensure:
- effective maintenance is budgeted for and occurs according to regulation
