MCABC Represents Industry at Day on the Leg
On February 16, MCABC partnered with CIPH, TECA and HRAI for the second joint visit to the BC legislature to talk Prompt Payment, Climate Action and Trades Training with:
- The Honourable Josie Osborne, Minister of Energy, Mines and Low Carbon Innovation;
- The Honourable George Heyman, Minister of Environment and Climate Change Strategy;
- The Honourable Andrew Mercier, Minister of State for Workforce Development
- Adam Walker, MLA for Parksville-Qualicum; Parliamentary Secretary for the Sustainable Economy;
- Members of the Liberal Caucus
- Provincial government staff
We had important and informative conversations, including:
- The need to prioritize and move forward with prompt payment legislation in BC;
- The need for funding to support educational programming that includes upskilling and cross-training of mechanical contractors in the ICI, high rise, multi-family and single family residential sectors;
- Accelerating plumbing as a certified trade;
- Aligning ratios of apprentices to journeypersons with current market conditions
We look forward to continuing the conversations and taking action on behalf of mechanical contractors in BC. You can read more on the issues of prompt payment, skilled trades training, and climate change.

MCABC Hosts Another Successful #coffeetalk
|
On February 23rd, Tessa Jordan, Program Head, Sustainable Business
Leadership at BCIT helped facilitate a conversation on understanding ESG.
We had a large group of people join for a lively, interactive conversation. Tessa described Environmental, Social and Governance as simply ‘information.’ In her experience, all the companies she has assisted are already doing good things within some or all of those areas. Her recommendation is to start by taking inventory of what your company is currently doing, and create policy statements so you are ready to go when that information is requested in a RFP.
Don't forget, only MCABC members can attend #coffeetalks. Our next session will be on on TSBC’s advertising
regulations for licensed contractors.
