Prompt Payment is Needed Now

On behalf of mechanical contractors in BC and in collaboration with the BC Construction Association (BCCA), the Electrical Contractors Association of BC (ECABC), and other construction industry stakeholders, MCABC continues to advocate for Prompt Payment Legislation in BC. Lack of prompt payment is one of the most significant issues in the mechanical contracting industry and when contractors don’t get paid on time, it places a financial burden on businesses and blocks cash flow in the economy.

A companion document to the Cross-Jurisdictional Legislative Comparison of Prompt Payment and Adjudication Regimes Across Canada prepared on November 24, 2023, has been submitted to British Columbia’s Ministry of the Attorney General, minister of finance and the premier. BCCA's report, The Time to Act Promptly is Now: A Paper on the Benefits of Prompt Payment and Adjudication Legislation, outlines the objectives and benefits of Prompt Payment Legislation and Adjudication which affect government, construction businesses, workers, and the taxpayers of British Columbia.

Two years ago, we stressed the importance of introducing immediate prompt payment legislation. It's time for change.
