On June 20th, at the MCABC Business Conference, Wayne Davidson of Davidson Bros. Mechanical, received a Lifetime Achievement Award for his contributions and commitment to the mechanical contracting industry. MCABC has prepared a tribute video for Wayne, check it out below.

For licensed contractors, Technical Safety BC (TSBC) has launched a new digital badge to display a TSBC licence. Read more on how to access the badge templates and the TSBC Advertising Guidelines. In addition, on July 24, 2024, WorkSafe BC is holding a virtual public hearing regarding proposed amendments to the Occupational Health and Safety Regulation for Washroom Facilities on construction sites.

    BC Hydro's new and improved continuous optimization program now provides easier access to funding

    BC Hydro Continuous Optimization program (C-Op) is now open to buildings and owners that don’t have a Key Account Manager. The C-Op program helps large commercial customers save energy and improve operations in buildings of at least 40,000 square feet through building retro-commissioning or recommissioning.

    July 2024 public hearing on proposed changes to the Occupational Health and Safety Regulation

    WorkSafeBC is holding a virtual public hearing on proposed amendments to the Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Regulation, including Part 20, Washroom Facilities at Construction Sites.

    The virtual public hearing will be streamed live on July 24, 2024, from 10 AM to 2 PM. More information on how you can participate in the public hearing will be made available closer to the date on worksafebc.com.

    MCABC members are encouraged to provide comments on proposed regulatory amendments. Feedback is welcomed either by written submission or by participation in the virtual public hearing.

    Written submissions will be accepted until 4:30 p.m. on Friday, July 26, 2024.

    WorkSafeBC: Occupational First Aid Regulatory Change — Summer 2024 Update

    Changes to Part 3 of the Occupational Health and Safety Regulation, relating to occupational first aid, take effect November, 1, 2024. This update provides information about the new workplace first aid curriculum and resources for  employers to learn about the first aid regulatory changes.

    Licensed contractors can now display their TSBC license with a new digital badge. This allows licensed contractors to distinguish themselves from non-licensed workers. The badge template is editable and can be used wherever you advertise.

    June advocacy update on Capital Gains Taxation policy from MCAC

    Following the Federal Budget 2024, the Department of Finance Canada announced an increase in the capital gains inclusion rate from one half to two thirds for corporations and trusts for capital gains realized on or after June 25, 2024.

          MCABC is pleased to bring a new Estimating course, Beginning and Advanced Estimating, this September 19th, 2024.

          Being an estimator in the mechanical contracting industry is a challenging and rewarding opportunity. Proper estimating skills and accurate costing are critical to the success of a company. This combined course is designed to provide you with basic understanding of the estimator’s role and an introduction of techniques used in estimating. Additionally, development of a competitive bid is more than the standard procedures of putting a bid together. Successful companies know the importance of continual process improvement, communications, expansion of services and proper technology implementation.

          This course is designed for individuals who are entering or new to the position of estimator, experienced estimators, project managers, field supervision or support staff.
