Competition Bureau publishes wage-fixing and no-poaching enforcement guidelines

Effective June 23, 2023, wage-fixing and no-poaching agreements are illegal. The Competition Bureau’s updated guidelines provide businesses transparency and clarity on the Bureau’s enforcement approach to the new criminal provisions that came into force last month. Members are encouraged to familiarize themselves with MCABC’s Competition Policy which was formally adopted by the Board of Directors on March 29, 2023 and is posted on MCABC’s Web site.

MCABC Advocates for Plumbing Certification in Skilled Trades BC's Second Round of Submissions

On June 30th, MCABC responded to Skilled Trades BC’s call for submissions for the second round of Skilled Trades Certified (STC) trades.  Plumbing topped MCABC’s list of mechanical contracting trades to be certified. Thank you to industry stakeholders who supported our submission.

Protecting Workers: WorkSafeBC's Heat Stress Reminder


WorkSafeBC emphasizes worker safety as temperatures rise in B.C. Last year, 81 heat stress injury claims were accepted, signaling an increasing risk. Employers must conduct heat stress assessments, develop control plans, and engage workers in discussions to mitigate hazards. Providing shade, rest breaks, hydration, and awareness of personal risk factors are essential.
